An attempt to break the Guinness World Yo-Yo record in Wellington today was a no-no.
The record attempt was organised by Save the Children New Zealand.
A spokeswoman said 171 people yo-yo-ed simultaneously for two minutes at the Michael Fowler Centre this afternoon.
However the effort fell short of the current record - 662 people yo-yo-ed together last year in Birmingham, England.
"The money raised with the appeal will help provide low-cost high-impact health care and nutrition, that quite simply will save children's lives," Liz Gibbs, chief executive of Save the Children said.
People could bring their own yo-yo or buy a Save the Children yo-yo for $5 at the event. To support children and families closer to home, $1 from each yo-yo sold would be donated to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
The amount raised by the fundraiser is not yet confirmed.
