Hamilton West MP Martin Gallagher is supporting opposition to the Youth Hostel Association's plans to sell property gifted to the community.
The land on which the Hamilton YHA sits was donated to the organisation in 1961 provided it was used to benefit the community.
However, the Association's CEO Mark Wells said the Victoria Street property will go under the hammer next month in order to pay off the organisation's multi-million dollar debts.
Mr Gallagher said the move was an outrage and hopes the council can convince the YHA to reconsider.
