Pollen season has arrived early this year, and it's causing some concern for environmentally aware Wellingtonians.
The Greater Wellington Regional Council's hotline is being inundated with calls from people reporting paint spills in waterways, but it turns out to be pollen.
Environmental regulations manager Al Cross said the council doesn't want to discourage people ringing the hotline, but wanted to remind people it is pollen season.
"We are eternally grateful people have a sharp eye out there for pollution, but they're mistaking this [pollen] for pollution."
The council has received around 20 to 30 calls to its hotline over the past few weeks.
