Yachting New Zealand's plan to build its headquarters at one of the North Shore's premium public waterfront reserves has been rejected by the North Shore City Council.
The plan was opposed by Milford and Castor Bay residents, who yesterday applauded the council's decision.
In return for the site next to the Milford marina, the training and international events organisation offered to incorporate public toilets and a lift.
The lift would get disabled people on and off a proposed bridge across the Wairau Creek.
