A New Zealand father-and-son team competing in a top yacht race around the world have headed back to Auckland after their vessel suffered severe damage.
Team Buckley Systems - made up of Ross and Campbell Field - is returning to Auckland after rough conditions damaged the yacht's wind instruments.
The yacht's autopilot cannot function without them.
The pair had been in the lead and were competing in the third leg, from Wellington to Punta del Este in Uruguay.
