KEY POINTS:
Telecom is trying to make amends to customers who have been unable to access their Xtra webmail because of a botched upgrade.
It is providing customers with one week of free internet access, at a cost of $5 million to $6 million.
It will also donate $1 million to several charities voted by customers.
Chief operating officer Kevin Kendrick acknowledged it has been a miserable start to the launch of its new email service.
He said Telecom is still working with customers who are experiencing technical issues with Xtra.
