The Cathedral Square walkway is to be open for one more day, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority has announced.
Last weekend was to be the last opportunity for Cantabrians to walk from Cashel Mall to the Square, but the walkway will now also be open this Saturday, Christmas Eve.
Around 19000 people used the walkway over the weekend just gone, slightly down on the numbers for previous weekends, CERA said.
On Christmas Eve the walkway will be open for a shorter amount of time, with the first entry at 9am and the last intake at 3pm.
CERA said the walkway follows the lowest risk route in the area, but given the potential for danger people should wear sturdy shoes and carry ID on their body rather than in a bag.
