Police are searching for a would-be kidnapper after a man grabbed an 11-year-old girl near the Mangere Bridge Town Centre on Wednesday.
Detective Coan Bradley said two girls, aged nine and 11, were walking towards Mangere Bridge Town Centre along Wallace Rd when a man in his late teens or early twenties approached them.
Inspector Bradley said the man grabbed the 11 year-old and held her around her shoulders and arms.
He said the nine year-old ran towards the intersection of Taylor Rd while the 11-year-old wrestled free of the man.
"The victims were approached by a women who witnessed the incident. The witness placed the two victims in her car and called Police. A further witness who saw the event take place challenged the offender who he said the two young girls were his cousins," Inspector Bradley said.
He said the man was seen getting into a grey or dark blue four door vehicle, possibly a late nineties model.
Mr Bradley said the man is described as asian, with a broad face, tan skin, about 170cm tall and of a slight build.
The man had shaven hair, about a number three and spikey. He was wearing a red t-shirt with a logo and three-quarter jeans with jandals.
