KEY POINTS:
The growing number of ageing police officers could lead to attrition problems in years to come, the National Party says.
Answers to parliamentary questions show the number of sworn officers older than 55 has gone from 134 in 2000 to 311 this year.
National Party police spokesman Chester Borrows said that could create problems in the future.
"The problem is that as the proportion of older police grows, the proportion of police retiring will grow," he said.
