Masterton Masters swimmer Kirsten Cameron has set a world record at the Masters world swimming championships in San Francisco.
Cameron, who works in Wellington but competes out of the Masterton club, clocked a stunning 9mins 14.82secs in winning the 30-34yrs section of the women's 800m
freestyle.
That time bettered the previous world best set by Canadian swimmer Lynn Marshall in 1992 by 2secs and left Cameron all of 30secs clear of her nearest rival.
Cameron, who won no fewer than six gold medals at the New Zealand Masters long course championships in April, is currently in the midst of a hectic schedule.
Following the San Francisco meet she will prepare to represent her country at the world open water championships in Naples, Italy.
Cameron , 32, will also contest the Masters division there after earning her spot in the New Zealand team by placing third in the 10km open water swim at the Oceania championships, held in Cairns, Australia last month.
She was the first Kiwi home in the women's division there, finishing behind Australians Brooke Fletcher and Nikita Barsley.
