New Zealander Graeme Wheeler has been appointed as one of two World Bank managing directors by president Paul Wolfowitz.
The other is Juan Jose Daboub, a former finance minister of El Salvador.
Mr Wheeler was the chief executive of the Treasury's debt management office from 1993 to 1997 before joining the World Bank.
