Wellington region care workers for the aged are taking industrial action after refusals by some employers to pass on government funding.
The Service and Food Workers Union (SFWU) claimed today two Wellington rest homes appeared to be holding back the full government funding of $1 per hour.
Workers at Johnsonville Rest Home, and Kemp Home and Hospital in Porirua, would stop work for two hours and take to the streets picketing this week.
SFWU spokesman Phil Metuariki likened the rest homes attitudes to Mr Scrooge, and said they were "treating the staff as if they were Tiny Tim".
"Last week the High Court ruled that government money should go to workers...
"Whether these employers are the first to exploit the court's decision is yet to be seen, but we hope that this is the last," he said.
