The 2012 Melbourne Cup played out on the big screen to a full house of punters and revellers at the Horse & Hound Cafe & Bar in Masterton yesterday.
The bar and adjoining TAB area were packed as the balloon went up and some patrons had dressed in raceday finery for the running of the race at the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.
Workmates Sharon Fourie, Kirstin Addis and Marcelle Chamberlain hugged and whooped as Australian-trained Green Moon crossed the line as winner.
Ms Chamberlain said her daughter had picked the winning horse earlier and the tip had paid off on the day.
Workers at several businesses in the town had dressed for the day, including staff at the Wairarapa Times-Age, BNZ Bank, Cafe Strada and Queen St accountancy firm Sellar & Sellar.Full race results, p22.
