KEY POINTS:
A construction worker has died after being hit by a falling slab of concrete this morning.
The man was hit by a 1.9 tonne slab, police said.
He was named this afternoon as 62-year-old Faialaga Tamielu of Mangere.
The accident happened at a building site on Lunn Road, Mt Wellington, Auckland, about 9.25am.
Emergency services were at the scene, which was cordoned off this morning. Police and firefighters interviewed workers and Occupational Safety and Health is also investigating.
Police sergeant Ivan Felton said the construction area was adjacent to an old quarry site.
