A construction worker fell four floors yesterday when the lift he was standing on to help build its shaft gave way and descended suddenly to the ground.
The man was working on the building site of the new Chancery retail development on the corner of Kitchener St and Bacons Lane when the accident happened just after midday.
He suffered leg injuries and was taken to Auckland Hospital, where his condition was described as stable.
Multiplex Constructions project manager Jim Gutteridge said it was not known what had caused the lift to fall.
The lift shaft was five weeks away from completion.
Occupational Safety and Health staff are investigating the accident.
