A 30-year-old man died after an accident on board a ship at the Port of Napier early today.
Napier Police acting senior sergeant Nigel Hurley said today the accident was reported at 2.20am. The man, from Napier, was killed instantly.
Police would not release details of the accident as it was subject to investigation by the Labour Department's occupational safety and health service and the Maritime Safety Authority.
The man's name would be released after family had been advised.
It was the second death at the Port of Napier this year.
Ian Stothart, a 64-year-old Bay View stevedore, died on January 19 after receiving head, arm and leg injuries in a fall between the decks of a ship he had been working on.
