KEY POINTS:
A worker at a Christchurch carpet factory is in a serious condition after falling into a vat of acid-based chemicals and dye.
Police spokesman Hemi Waretini confirmed a 30-year-old man had been taken to hospital suffering extreme burns to the lower part of his body after the accident, which happened about 11am.
Mr Waretini would not name the factory involved.
The Department of Labour would be investigating, he said.
