Work to clean out the stinking trickling filters at Christchurch's wastewater plant in Bromley has restarted after a breakdown this week.
After practice runs over the weekend, Tuesday was the first day Southern Demolition and Salvage contractors were tasked with moving the rotting material from the plant to Kate Valley Landfill.
But it didn't quite go to plan. The Christchurch City Council said a mechanical failure of the compactor and generator has meant operations had to stop early yesterday.
So far, around 1000 of the 26,000 cubic metres of material have been moved.
Today, the council confirmed contractors will continue the work from 10.30am.
