National pride is something to be cherished.
So, too, is the notion that brainpower will be the most important commodity in tomorrow's world.
The government, business and academic groups, together with members of the public, agree that we must develop a knowledge-based society.
That process is underway but the real rewards will come to those now in colleges and universities.

Education and its vital importance in helping create a knowledge society was the major theme of the Knowledge Wave conference.
Prime Minister Helen Clark has supported the formation of the Knowledge Wave Trust and hopes the energy and momentum created by the conference will continue to build.
The trust has a number of education projects and hopes to support the awarding of Oscars for our best teachers throughout the country.
