The teenage son of Close Up presenter Susan Wood was lucky to escape injury after he lost control of his BMW and crashed it on to the roof of a Remuera house.
Alex Beck came away from his crash on Upland Rd on Sunday night with just a scratch to his leg.
"I'm just so relieved he was all right, and that no one in the house was hurt and that he wasn't hurt," Wood said. "He's very very lucky. He's beside himself about what's happened."
The elderly occupant of the house was not home at the time. Police yesterday had not decided whether to lay charges against Mr Beck.
Donald Serra-Stacey, a friend of Mr Beck who was driving in front of him, said he saw the BMW "going on an angle" on to the footpath.
He phoned Mr Beck, who told him: "Whoa, I just went off a cliff."
Wood says: 'My son's so lucky'
