Women's hockey semifinals were played out at the Clareville complex on Saturday.
Top seeds Dalefield eased into the final after beating Red Star 3-1. Both teams made a nervous start, with missed opportunities at both ends.
The first half was evenly contested, but it was Dalefield who took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Red Star tried to absorb the pressure thrown at them, but Dalefield scored twice more in the second half to lead 3-0. Red Star managed to peg one goal back, but this proved too little too late and Dalefield went comfortably through to the final.
In the second semifinal, second seeds Featherston had a much tougher battle against East Coast. Play see-sawed from end to end, with neither team able to break the opposition's defence in the first half.
Tied up 0-0 at halftime, it was still anyone's game after the break. East Coast's first real chance hit the post and was quickly cleared by the Featherston defence.
Deep into the second half both teams had several penalty corner opportunities, but it was Featherston captain Tracey Donald who finally broke the deadlock after a melee in the circle, taking her team into the final this weekend, where they will square up against Dalefield.
