KEY POINTS:
Two passersby came to the rescue of a woman being indecently assaulted in a city street.
The two women saw a man try to drag the 24-year-old victim into a driveway in central Wellington on Friday night.
They shouted at the man, telling him to leave the woman alone and the attacker then pushed the victim to the ground and ran off.
Police have dubbed the women "guardian angels".
Detective Sergeant Damian Murphy said the incident occurred at 11.30pm and said the attacker had been described as being about 173cm tall and stockily built.
He was wearing a dark rain jacket, dark trousers and a red cap.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw the incident or saw a man matching the offender's description in the area around Hawker St and Majoribanks St.
They also want to hear from the pair who helped the victim.
