Participation is the theme of the Wairarapa women's triathlon being held in Masterton on Sunday.
A field expected to reach about the same numbers as last year, 262, will contest a 2.3km run, 13km cycle ride and 175m swim over a circuit based around Queen Elizabeth Park and the Genesis Recreation Centre.
Sport Wairarapa spokeswoman Samantha Thompson said the emphasis was very much on taking part rather than registering fast times.
"Obviously, there will be some competitors who take it very seriously but most of them will be aiming to make it to the finish and enjoy the experience, that's what it is all about."
Thompson said the target age group for the event was between 30 and 50 years and she expects the bulk of the entrants to be in that age group.
