A second person has died in Middlemore Hospital following a two-car crash at Karaka, South Auckland. Police said the crash happened about 6.40am on State Highway 22 near the intersection of Blackridge Road.
The two women who died in a fatal road smash south of Auckland on Saturday morning have been named.
They were 22-year-old Na Huan, and 23-year-old Zhuangya Xu, both from China.
Both women died following the crash on State Highway 22, near the intersection with Blackridge Rd, around 6.40am onSaturday.
One of the women died at the scene, while the other died during surgery at Middlemore Hospital.
The women were travelling in a yellow Toyota Altezza with one other person, who remained in hospital in a critical condition, police said.
The other vehicle involved in the crash was a white Toyota Altezza, which was travelling in the opposite direction on Karaka Road. Police said at this stage it appeared as though the white vehicle crossed the centre line.
The driver of this vehicle also remained in hospital with serious injuries.
Police said everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts.
