Two women were car-jacked at gunpoint while sitting in a McDonalds carpark in the early hours of this morning.
Detective Craig Turley said the two women saw a "suspicious" looking man hanging around an ATM machine in the Auckland suburb of Mangere at about 2.30am.
"The male was walking funny and looked as if he was holding something in his hands. The offender approached the open driver's window and pointed a pistol at the females, he told them to get out of the vehicle", Mr Turley.
He said the women got out of their car and the man got in and tried to start the engine.
Mr Turley said the car alarm went off and the women helped him to turn it off.
He said the man drove down Mascot Ave towards Massey Rd with the lights turned off.
Mr Turley said anyone who has seen the Honda CRV with the registration plate BCA372 should call police on (09) 295 0200.
He said the man is described as a Pacific Islander, aged between 17 and 20 years-old and 183cm tall. The man is of a skinny build and was wearing a dark coloured beannie, blue jersey and dark pants. The man was holding a 15cm long pistol that could have been plastic.
