A woman died after being hit by a truck on a stretch of motorway near Auckland Airport this morning.
Her death brings the holiday road toll to 16.
The incident, believed to have happened between 5.30am and 5.40am in Mangere, caused south-bound traffic on the motorway to be closed for several hours. Police are now looking for a truck and trailer unit that would have been headed for the Airport or nearby Manukau, and the serious crash unit is investigating.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
