KEY POINTS:
Napier police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old Napier woman found dead in her flat in the city yesterday.
The woman, who lived in Cotterell Crescent in suburban Onekawa South, was found by her sister at 11am yesterday. She had apparently died from stab wounds to the chest.
Detective Senior Sergeant Bill Gregory said police had cordoned off the address while police and Environmental Science and Research specialists carried out scene investigations.
It was yet to be determined whether the death was a homicide, Mr Gregory said.
The woman's body was removed from the flat yesterday and was taken to Wellington today for a post-mortem.
Mr Gregory said the woman, who had adult children, lived alone and was well respected within the community.
He name was expected to be released later today after next of kin had been informed.
