Call centre bosses who fired a woman shortly after she had a miscarriage have been told to pay up.
The employee, Kun Zhang, did admit to sometimes hanging up on customers and taking longer breaks than allowed, but the Employment Relations Authority said she was unfairly sacked.
GL Futures Development, operators of an online gaming business, chose to fire Ms Zhang even after receiving medical evidence of her miscarriage and an apology from her for previous indiscipline.
In May last year, a fellow worker said Ms Zhang and two other employees had taken too long on their dinner break. The firm said Ms Zhang admitted exceeding her meal break and jeopardised the company's reputation by "rudeness and ill-treatment" of customers.
The ERA said Ms Zhang was treated unfairly.
