Police have named the Kaikohe woman who died after what police allege was a domestic violence attack.
She was Lola Paraha, aged 47 years, from Kaikohe.
A post-mortem examination of the woman's body will be carried out today.
A 38-year-old man, charged with assaulting Ms Paraha, has been is in custody after an initial court appearance yesterday and will re-appear in the Kaikohe District Court next Thursday.
A team of 20 police officers are investigating the Ms Paraha's death and are interviewing friends and family.
Detective Inspector Karyn Malthus said yesterday that an ambulance was called to the woman's flat on Kaikohe's main street on Wednesday night and a concerned member of the public performed CPR until it arrived.
The woman was flown to Whangarei Hospital, where she died early yesterday morning.
Ms Malthus said the 38-year-old man was arrested at the woman's flat and was charged with assault.
"No-one else is being sought in connection with the death of the woman," Ms Mathus said.
Ms Malthus said a two year-old was at the flat when the alleged attack took place.
She said the alleged attack was the second in the last month which had seen someone die.
