KEY POINTS:
A woman who accepted a man's offer of a lift home in his car early on Sunday morning was later raped on the side of the road, police say.
The woman was approached by a man in Collingwood St, Hamilton, between 12.30am and 1.30am on Sunday, said Detective Sergeant Mark Greene of Hamilton police.
The car was similar to a 1985-88 Toyota Corolla hatchback.
Instead of taking the woman to her home the man drove to a rural part of Collins Road where he got the woman out of the car and raped her on the road side.
He then drove off taking the woman's card wallet containing her driver's licence, two eftpos cards and her two cellphones.
Mr Greene is appealing for anyone who saw the car parked on a bus stop in Collingwood St before the attack.
