KEY POINTS:
A woman driver found to be three-and-a-half times over the legal limit was mortified by her behaviour, her lawyer says.
Lorey Ellen Collins, 28, a radiation therapy student, pleaded guilty in Wellington District Court today to driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit of 400 micrograms per litre of breath.
Police prosecutor Kylie Campbell said Collins was found with 1408 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath on February 17.
She had been pulled over at a checkpoint on Lyall Parade in Lyall Bay, Wellington.
Collins lawyer, Cathie Sheat, said Collins knew she had behaved stupidly and was mortified.
Judge Jan Kelly said the amount of alcohol in her system was an "extremely high level".
She fined Collins $1400 and ordered her to pay $130 in court costs.
Collins is also disqualified from driving or holding a license for six months.
