An 18-year-old woman has handed herself in to police after being caught on video urinating in a Napier fountain.
Police examining security footage from Thursday evening were surprised to see the woman wade into the St John's Cathedral fountain off Hastings Street and urinate.
The woman's mother spotted her in the pictures released to the media and alerted her, the Stuff website reported today.
The woman was "very embarrassed, very upset and very apologetic", said senior constable Shane Gibson.
Urinating in public was an offence as well as a health hazard but police let her off with a warning.
The incident was reminiscent of a young man dubbed "the Piddler on the Roof", caught urinating into a ticket machine from the upper floor of a Napier parking building last July. He was fined $200.
Napier city is monitored by eight 360-degree closed circuit security cameras.
