A 30-year-old woman was air lifted to a North Island hospital yesterday after she became tangled in a rope swing.
The Auckland woman was visiting family near Te Kaha, in the Bay of Plenty, and was swimming with them at a local river, said Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter pilot Liam Brettkelly.
He said the woman was swinging from a rope swing into the river when she became tangled about 3pm.
"She got caught up in the rope, she got tangled up in the rope more or less. She let go of the rope and was flying through the air and the rope came back and tangled around her."
Mr Brettkelly said she received lacerations to her abdomen and was taken to the Te Kaha Medical Centre.
