A Dunedin woman taken to hospital in handcuffs following a high-speed crash last night will likely be charged, police say.
The 33-year-old woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital with her 14-year-old daughter after crashing at the corner of Andersons Bay Road and State Highway 1 about 7.20pm yesterday.
The woman was handcuffed as she allegedly abused police and emergency services as they tried to help her daughter at the scene.
Police said alcohol and speed were believed to be contributing factors.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said the woman was travelling southbound at about 120km per hour. She failed to take a bend, crossed a median strip and three northbound lanes before colliding with traffic lights.
Before the crash, the woman's car also had a bumper-to-bumper accident at Castle and Frederick Streets.
She then drove along Cumberland Street and collided with a northbound vehicle before the final crash, Mr Benn said.
When police arrived at the scene, the woman was lying on the road.
The woman was handcuffed because of her "attitude and her threats and abuse towards the police officers and ambulance."
Mr Benn said the woman faced "serious" traffic offences.
