A Tauranga woman has been sentenced to home detention after stealing nearly $10,000 from an elderly dementia sufferer.
Rose Watene, 57, was sentenced to five months' home detention when she appeared in Tauranga District Court today on 42 charges of using a document to gain pecuniary advantage by deception.
Watene was living with an 82-year-old woman when she used two of her elderly charge's credit cards, the court was told.
Over eight months, she withdrew cash and bought a number of items for herself, before admitting to a family member what she had done.
