KEY POINTS:
A man is to appear in Tauranga District Court today after a woman was stabbed late last night in a dispute between neighbours.
Police were called to a home in Cambridge Road, Tauranga, about 11pm after an altercation.
Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier, of Tauranga CIB, said an earlier verbal exchange between two women had developed into a physical confrontation, with a man from one of the houses joining in.
"The subsequent melee resulted in one of the females involved receiving a stab wound to her back," he said.
The woman, a visitor from Australia staying with relatives, was treated in Tauranga Hospital for a single stab wound and was discharged early today.
Mr Brazier said a 33-year-old sickness beneficiary faces one charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in Tauranga District Court today.
