A woman was seriously injured when the SUV she was driving collided with a large tractor-trailer on Tuesday.
Fire services were called to the scene of the accident east of Tirau just past 7pm. Ambulance crews and three fire trucks attended, northern fire communications spokeswoman Megan Ruru said.
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the accident east of Tirau around 7.30pm. The woman, who had serious injuries, was flown to Waikato Hospital.
Earlier in the day three helicopters, including the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter, were called out at 4pm to a motor vehicle accident near Inangahua, east of Westport.
A man in his 30s was flown to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries. A woman was also flown to Christchurch and one other person to Greymouth Hospital.
