A 73-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was thrown from a horse-drawn cart and kicked in the stomach today.
Tauranga-based rescue helicopter pilot Liam Brettkelly said the Trustpower TECT helicopter was called to the incident in Waihi.
He said a local woman had been thrown from her cart and, as she fell forward, was kicked in the stomach by the horse pulling it.
"She received serious abdominal and head injuries as a result," Ms Brettkelly said.
The rescue service airlifted the woman to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.
