The woman who was discovered seriously injured in Christchurch early today says she believes she was intentionally mown down by a driver.
The 53-year-old Dunedin woman was found with head wounds just before 4.30am on Durham Street in the central city, police said.
Police had spoken with the woman from her bed at Christchurch Hospital today, Christchurch Central CIB Detective Sergeant Craig Farrant told NZPA.
"She is of the belief that she was intentionally aimed at, or ridden over, so we are tailoring the investigation along the lines of a very serious assault, or assault with a weapon, come attempted murder -- if it goes that far."
It was still not known if the woman knew the driver of the vehicle, he said.
The woman was struck between 4am and 4.26am.
Police will formally interview the woman tomorrow, Mr Farrant said.
