A woman who fell and broke her arm on Mt Ruapehu today was rescued 8000 feet up by helicopter.
The Taupo-based Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was dispatched at 3pm when the 48-year-old climber alerted emergency services on her mobile phone.
A ski patrol member climbed to the woman's position, 8000 feet up on a steep slope above the ski field, and administered first aid until the helicopter arrived.
The woman was flown to a nearby landing zone where St John paramedics stabilised her.
The helicopter then took her to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.
