A young woman was winched by helicopter after rising tides trapped her on a cliff at Kawakawa Bay, south east of Auckland.
The 20-year-old woman and a man, who Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter crews believe was her partner, were walking around the rocks nears Kawakawa Bay Coast Rd yesterday morning when tides began to rise.
The man managed to climb about 12m up the cliff face and raise alarm, while the woman remained trapped.
Crewman on the chopper, Greg Brownson, said they were called to the scene by ambulance due to difficult access reaching the woman.
The woman was returned to the carpark where fire crews, police and ambulance were waiting.
