The woman most seriously injured of seven hurt in Friday's head-on car crash near Gisborne remains critically ill in the intensive care unit at Waikato Hospital.
The crash happened moments after a police patrol car began to pursue one of the cars for alleged speeding.
The seven people, including two children, were injured when the cars they were in collided on a slight bend just south of Te Karaka, 25kms inland from the city on SH2.
A 21-year-old woman in one of the vehicles was flown out to Waikato Hospital that night.
"She is in our ICU and remains in a critical but stable condition," a Waikato spokeswoman said this morning.
