KEY POINTS:
An elderly woman is recovering in Christchurch Hospital after her car plunged into the Avon and Heathcote estuary here this morning.
St John spokesman Ian Henderson said the ambulance communications centre received a call just before 10.50am from a passerby who saw the woman drive into the water off Main Rd in Redcliffs suburb.
The woman was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Her condition this afternoon was unknown.
