A woman attacked in her Wanganui home phoned her daughter before the police because of the row over 111 calls. Dorothy Symes, 60, and her husband, John, 64, were attacked at 12.30 on Saturday morning. Mrs Symes was admitted to hospital briefly after the attack, and her husband was discharged on Wednesday.
After phoning her daughter, she called the police. She said they had given her amazing support.
"I couldn't speak more highly of them. They spoke to me the whole time I was on the phone. They got there very quickly and were very good."
