A woman who admitted failing to exercise proper control over a menacing bulldog she said looked like Winston Churchill, has been ordered to pay $200 to a woman bitten by the animal.
Lee Robyn Jackson, 46, of Hokitika was charged with failing to control the dog with reckless disregard for others when she appeared before Greymouth District Court yesterday.
She was walking Wilbur on Cass Square on March 18, when it slipped its leash and charged a 36-year-old woman taking a shortcut across the park.
The dog jumped up and bit the woman twice before Jackson regained control of it.
Lawyer Eymard Bradley said Jackson was not the owner of the dog but exercised its companion.
