Woman missing from rest home found in bamboo thicket

An elderly woman missing overnight from a North Shore rest home has been found entangled in a bamboo thicket.


Helen Clough, 84, was found shortly before 11am today after she disappeared in heavy rain last night.


Police said she was found a few metres from a flooded stream and they had some difficulty getting her free.


She was wet, cold and dishevelled, but very pleased to see her rescuers, Inspector Les Paterson said in a statement.


She was taken to North Shore Hospital in an ambulance.


Police had earlier feared for her safety, saying she was lightly clad and could easily have succumbed in the heavy overnight rain.
