An overnight attack has left a Whakatane woman in Waikato Hospital with serious facial injuries.
The Waikato-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Waikato Hospital ICU team, was called at 10pm to a Whakatane address, where a 56-year-old woman had been assaulted in her home.
The helicopter service said the woman suffered "extensive" facial injuries and was"accompanied aboard the flight by her partner.
Police are investigating the incident.
