A woman in her twenties is dead after her car collided with a power pole northwest of Invercargill overnight.
Police came across the crashed Mitsubishi on State Highway 99 near Thornbury about 5.45am today, said Senior Sergeant Dave Raynes of Invercargill police.
The woman, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was killed in the crash.
"At this stage it is not known whether any other vehicle was involved, or whether alcohol or speed were factors."
The woman was believed to be from Invercargill and next of kin were being informed, Mr Raynes said.
