A woman who died in a head-on crash on State Highway One north of Balclutha yesterday has been named by police.
Beverly Joyce Watson, 32, of Riverton, had been driving a southbound Nissan Pulsar and died at the scene.
A 59-year-old driver of the other vehicle involved in the crashwas discharged from Dunedin Hospital this afternoon.
The state highway remained closed with detours this morning as Balclutha police and a serious crash investigation specialist completed a scene examination. The road re-opened around midday.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing and police say it is too early to speculate around which factors may have caused it.
Police are still keen to hear from anyone who was travelling through the area of Stoney Creek, about 10km north of Balclutha late afternoon or early evening yesterday, who may have seen a dark grey Nissan Murano travelling north or a silver Nissan Pulsar travelling south.
The collision occurred at around 5.30pm.
Anyone with information should contact either the Balclutha police on 03 418 0203 or their nearest police station.
