A young woman was killed when a four-wheel-drive vehicle collided head on with a tractor in western Otago yesterday.
April Lee Skerrett, 18, of Alexandra, died in the crash at Moa Flat, between Tapanui and Roxburgh about 11.30am.
Senior Sergeant Steve Gregory, of Gore police, said a third vehicle following the 4WD side-swiped it while taking evasive action.
Two people with moderate to serious injuries were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital. A third person with moderate injuries was taken by ambulance to Hore Hospital.
Ms Skerrett and her injured colleagues were members of a Central Otago-based shearing gang.
The tractor was being driven by a Moa Flat farmer, who was uninjured in the crash.
Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
